It started

For seven-plus years, owner and pitmaster James Massengill has been smoking barbecue in the same spot on E. M.L.K. Blvd, and he's earned a roomful of regulars who'll tell you straight: Chatt Smokehouse has the best barbecue in Chattanooga.

Every rub, the sauce, the chili, the coleslaw: they're all James's own original recipes, made from scratch. The meat goes low and slow over charcoal and hickory until it's tender enough to pull clean off the bone. No shortcuts, no pre-packaged anything. Just the flavor people keep driving back for.
